| Abstract + Keywords | It is known that CALL depends on the software use. But there is only a few software that can be used without making some changes. Generally the ready made software doesnt fit the needs of learners. So the authoring tools enables the teachers to avoid the limitations of ready made turnkey software. The teachers can develop their own interactive, on- or offline materials with multimedia content using authoring tools. But the authoring tools also have their limits. Programming can help to the teachers to produce more effective materials which the standard functions of a authoring tool doesnt allow. This paper aims to show how the authoring tool can be used, what the teacher needs to know and how the programming languages like HTML and JavaScript enable to exceed the limits of authoring tool. The online authoring tool 'Hot Potatoes' will be used as an example to show the capabilities and limits of authoring tools. |
